Unjustified call ups for England

It's that time again, ALREADY. After an international break just a fortnight ago, the latest England squad has been released today by the FA, ahead of the World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.

England - who sit in 2nd place in Group H - need to pick up six points from these two games, particularly as Ukraine are snapping at the heels of the Three Lions, just one point behind.

No pressure on Roy Hodgson then..

Since taking charge, Hodgson has largely kept his squads the same, with very few players at 'smaller' clubs being given a chance. That all changed last month when Southampton forward Rickie Lambert - the only player to score goals in all four of the English Divisions - was given his first call up. The country erupted as he powered home a header with his first touch of the ball - a touch that proved to be decisive against arch enemies Scotland.

It's great to see call ups for Ross Barkley and Andros Townsend as both have excelled for Everton and Tottenham so far this season. But it seems largely, he has reverted to his 'favoured' squad for these qualifiers despite a number of them not actually playing so far this year.

Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Raheem Sterling all play for clubs in the 'Top 6' (Man Utd and Liverpool.) However so far this year, all three have barely featured, with only Young getting a few minutes on the pitch.

These players, in my eyes, do not deserve a call up. Why bother calling up three players who are barely fit with hardly any minutes under their belt, when you can call up others who are excelling for their clubs early on.

Gabby Agbonlahor is one name I would bring to light. The Aston Villa forward, who has played for England before, has been completely overlooked despite some fantastic performances against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in his club's first three games.

Another overlooked player is Steven Caulker. It seems Hodgson has forgotten he called him up last year when playing well for Tottenham, and so far, Caulker has excelled at Cardiff this season, including a magnificent performance against Man City last weekend that saw the Bluebirds beat City 3-2.

The rest of the squad largely picks itself because England's key players are playing week in week out. It just seems unfair and somewhat ridiculous that Hodgson isn't picking the in-form players, and is simply picking those he knows and trusts - a method I whole heartedly disagree with.

Lets start picking the in-form players who deserve to be there and not simply the household names.
